In a small house near the outskirts of town a few families hid together seeking refuge from the chaos outside. The first door opened and shut so quickly one could almost believe they had imagined it. Before anyone had the chance to investigate, a small blur tore through the house causing mayhem wherever it went. A few dishes seemed to launch themselves out of cabinets. The father left his seat only to fall over, finding his shoelaces tied together. One child found her doll was now without stuffing.

The families huddled closer together, certain that this was the end. A cruel giggle seemed to come from all sides of the room as the Quickling continued its path of destruction. Soon it would move on to their neighbor. Then the next neighbor. Then the next.

A feeling of defeat spread throughout the town. As the sun began to set, so too did the hope of seeing a new day.
